Ruapehu College

Ruaephu College is nestled beneath the magnificent Mt Ruapehu and adjacent to world heritage Tongariro National park. This boutique school truly captures the essence of New Zealand and is located in the town of Ohakune which is a destination for those interested in snow sports, tramping, biking and for those who just appreciate ‘the nature’.

The school has a strong academic focus which facilitates students being offered choices about their future careers whether it to be to University or to one of the many job opportunities offered in the Ruapehu district. The area is a tourist destination and with the availability of snow sports and growing mountain biking industry, there is a distinctly international feel about Ohakune during certain times of the year.

The education that Ruapehu College offers to its students is similar to many New Zealand schools that promote teaching and learning programmes which focus on student attainment and providing opportunities for excellence. What sets us apart from the other schools is the opportunity to fully engage with this unique environment. We excel in snow sports with our snow academies and our outdoor academy offers a wide range of amazing experiences. As well as an excellent education, the school provides a breath of fresh air!

Students aspire to excellence in terms of achievement whether this is academic, sports the arts, outdoor education, or in other areas. In conjunction with the New Zealand Curriculum document, we have made some decisions about the Ruapehu College learner and the skills they will need as they progress through school and beyond. Our teaching and learning pedagogies are founded on notions of excellence and what is needed to achieve it.

Ruapehu College has a vision where young people will be confident, connected, and actively involved lifelong learners. This endorses the fact that high quality teaching is fundamental to academic success. Our class sizes are small and our teachers really know the needs of each student, therefore excellence can be aspired to and achieved.
