Logan Park High School |
Logan Park High School is a co-educational school in Dunedin, a city of 120,000, home to the University of Otago, and known as the “student city”. The school is set in a valley surrounded by forest, five minutes’ walk from the campus.
Logan Park is well-known as Dunedin’s performance arts school and is proud of its well-deserved reputation for academic excellence, based on outstanding national scholarship results. In 2006 Logan Park High School was the top co-ed school in Dunedin and second overall in scholarship results.
Logan Park has a roll of 600 students from year 9 to year 13. The school is strong in English, Art, Music, Drama, Science, Maths and languages, including Maori, Japanese, German, French and Latin. Students have access to computers in and out of class time with a ratio of one to every two students. There are numerous opportunities for musical students, including two school choirs, several chamber music groups, a jazz band, an orchestra and after school rock music academy.
Logan Park has Dunedin’s top secondary school football, futsal and ice hockey teams as well as highly competitive teams in girls’ and boys’ field hockey, badminton, and basketball.
The school has a climbing club and the city’s only indoor climbing wall. We offer international students an Outdoor Experience programme of at least 2 trips each term, including kayaking, skiing or snow boarding, tramping and sight seeing in the stunning scenery of the lower South Island made famous in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Outdoor Programme
Greymouth High School is ideally situated in diverse natural surroundings, from mountain ranges to native bushland, to offer an outdoor education programme packed with exciting activities.
Its programme is open to students of all levels who work hard to achieve personal goals, knowledge and life skills. Outdoor education students in years 12 and 13 can gain New Zealand Qualifications Authority recognised qualifications.
Greymouth High School’s outdoor education programme is aimed to take advantage of the area’s surroundings, with activities based around excellent bush and tramping/mountain biking trails, surf beaches, and a beautiful river for introducing white water kayaking and rafting. Within an easy drive are sea cliffs for rock climbing, skifields, and extended wilderness for mountain trips and advanced kayaking that can sometimes involve helicopter access.
The school’s outdoor education staff are dedicated and active, and qualified to a high level in the options they teach. Involved in the school’s programme is Tai Poutini Polytechnic, a nationally respected outdoor education provider. This gives students the chance to try a wider range of activities and meet other people committed to the outdoor industry and lifestyle.
