Founded in 1908, Gore High School is situated in the largest town in Southland and is at the hub of outdoor activities. Gore is within a two hour drive of the Southern Lakes of Queenstown and Te Anau, the mountains and bush of Fiordland and the ski fields of Central Otago.
Gore has a population of nearly 9,000 and services a large farming community. It offers a wide range of facilities, including an international ice skating rink, swimming pool, sports stadium, numerous sports fields, an internationally renowned Art gallery, theatre, coffee shops, and a vibrant retail sector.
Gore High School is a co-educational state school with a roll of 660 students. We have a number of international students from various countries, particularly exchange students from Europe.
The school's mission is about "learning to make a difference" in the lives of our young people and in the life of the school. The wide range of subjects, along with activities and outdoor pursuits provide a very rich environment for many. The school has a strong language department, particularly French. We also run a five day Hostel. All students in the school are supported by a comprehensive student welfare system - every year level has deans, who take a personal interest in students.
